Topological field theories of three-dimensional rotation symmetric insulators: Coupling curvature and electromagnetism

Quantized responses are important tools for understanding and characterizing the universal features of topological phases matter. In this work, we consider a class crystalline insulators in $3$D with $C_n$ lattice rotation symmetry along fixed axis, addition to either mirror or particle-hole symmetry. These can realize quantized mixed geometry-charge responses. When surface these is gapped, disclinations on carry fractional charge that half minimal amount occur purely $2$D systems. Similarly, disclination lines bulk fractionally electric polarization. effects, other related phenomena, captured by response term couples curvature electromagnetic field strength. Additionally, symmetric be smoothly deformed into higher-order octopole insulator corner charges.
